This is my favorite section of my website because I show to all of you many interesting websites, and even some are very useful, atleast for me when I need them. My kind of "you need to see this" in form of different webpages.
You might end up digging and exploring more websites, and that's part of the fun. The way the Web was intended.
Note: I found most of these from a few great web resources but forgot almost all of these where I got from. There's some possibilities that I credited them and even have them on the Small Web category.
Simbology (hover to see details):
: A super old/inactive website that's still accessible today.
Categories:
Museums
Digital museums or giant collections of any kind.
The largest digital library of the Internet, a must-see website. I have a huge appreciation to the Internet Archive for just existing, I feel thankful for that.
A gateway to the old internet, and it works on old machines.
Most people know about this one: "The 88x31 GIF Collection", but as the name of the website implies, it is indeed the largest 88x31 collection.
Incredible website that showcases all known media formats, their developments and timelines, and how these went over the decades after their creation.
From the page: "A restored visual gallery of the archived Geocities sites, sorted by neighborhood".
It doesn't seem to be maintained but still the best way to explore archived GeoCities sites.
A visual gallery from various websites with web design changes through their history.
Also includes design histories from various mobile applications, programs and even flash games.
The title of "the largest 88x31 collection" probably goes to this actually. More than 30.000 unique 88x31 buttons that were hosted on GeoCities, when that trend was in its prime.
An archive of seized domains/websites by gov agencies.
First and last time I saw one was the Megaupload one, and it's also there.
Dedicated archive of old software, mostly for Windows.
Another 88x31 buttons collection.
Repository of text files that shows how important these were before the Web.
Wiki of all considered lost of any media.

Search Engines
My picks of better search engines.
Private and lightweight, free open source metasearch engine with about 18 indexes from different search engines you can pick. Also has instances (which some don't have bot protection!) and a Tor domain.
From the source's readme: "4get is the best way to browse for shit". (h/t Lupen)
Private search engine that shows Google results. Better than Google itself.
A search engine for old looking websites. I find this better than The Old Net.
The "surprise me" link is the best feature.
Search YouTube subtitles, captions and transcripts of any videos with them. Perfect for research, to search specific sentences, to detect any stolen words from other works, etc.
Search engine dedicated to GeoCities GIFs by the Internet Archive. Cool huh? This is where I get alot of GIFs when I need to.
Search 88x31 buttons archived from GeoCities or newer ones from The Cyber Vanguard's collection. (h/t Terrible Lizard)
Very cool search engine that tries (a very good attempt) to look like AltaVista. You can search old archived webpages like GeoCities, AOL Hometown and so much more.

Small Web
A selection of independent and personal websites, including clubs, forums and hosting services related to them.
Want to make a website? Neocities allows you to make a website like from scratch with HTML and Javascript. Still want to make one? Go for it!
Another but better alternative to Neocities. It offers a better file editor, custom domain support, unlimited file types, easier migration, etc.
Awesome website. It has cool artwork, music, a repository of Microsoft V-Chat and weird and unknown software and so on.
This is a very unique website that should be visited more for new people into the Indie Web.
Not only it has so much content about web development, graphics, animations, games, etc. but also the owner of this website has such history since pretty much the beginning of the Internet, and his unlimited creativity when it comes to filming and web design which the later it's pretty much present on this website. Please check it out!
She's the reason that got me interested in building websites back again in 2019, and I really appreciate that.
She also helped me beta testing it and approaching me with ideas and assets for my Error Message Generator.
Some of the best looking websites out there. Also offers a guide for anyone interested to build a website so this is a perfect place to take inspiration from.
Found many excelent websites by digging through this so thanks for that.
WARNING: Eye strain.
Very cool website that I found. It offers screensavers, Neko 95/98 and cursors.
This one is really beautiful. A very well dedicated and designed website by a very talented pixel artist. Please check it out! You won't regret it.
Neat small website by a developer who loves the 90's so much that the website speaks for itself. I absolutely love its design.
A cool looking website by my mutual ouija, check it out!
Internet Explorer is evil, why is it? You might want to look into it and see how Microsoft forced to their users to have IE on their computers.
Oh and the whole website is very interesting, full of many resources for older operating systems.
Página muy buena que contiene muchísimas cosas interesantes como también proyectos personales. Es bacán porque es chileno y como patriota hay que apoyarlo.
ToastyTech's lost sibling, but even more cynical. This page is full of personality, and it contains many funny stuff. It's not family friendly content though.
Or "Just Another Useless Page" is where people lost their track and felt the world being unfair to them, and this is a place for these creators and artists who felt the same and want to be part of that group.
I'm not a JAUP member but there's a high chance that I'm totally qualified to be there, since I'm another useless person and my website is quite similar as me in that regard, makes total sense.
Very cool retro-ish website. This is where I found some of the websites mentioned here thanks to this.
This website hasn't changed since the year 2000. It was supposed to be "normal" after October 2nd but never did.
It was a protest about copyright on the web where websites choosed to look like the same grey homepage on October 1st.
Grey page until the end of time.

Articles
Interesting articles to read.
A website that tells the reasons why social media is bad and the solutions to leave it for good.
As a person who dislikes "social" media for many reasons for so long, I recommend you checking it out.
I made this animated button btw, it's not official. Feel free to use it.
A wiki about products and services that exploits their clueless clients.
As years comes by, more websites are disappearing or going offline without being noticed by almost, anyone, and it is becoming more regular since 2020. This page is designed to last, and for anyone that is hosting or have a website, you should consider to read this.
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" - Da Vinki.
A post that tells the shady side of Discord and why you shouldn't trust it.
I highly recommend it if you're a Discord user.
Interesting website that shows many design mistakes that may be impossible to understand their functions, and their respective solutions by the author of the website.
I was losing my mind trying to find this website again since I forgot where I found it for the first time years ago but thanks to The Simple Site it's now immortalized here.
This page enlists each dead Google service that somehow still remains readable to the public. Remember that time when Google Toolbar was still hosted? Yeah, that but with many others that remain unnoticed.
Reader mode is a tool bundled with a few web browsers, useful for some users when they want to read through a website without any distractions and wacky layouts.
But, sometimes this feature is not on every site for a few reasons explained on this article, find out what and how you might want to implement it on your website. (h/t Solaria)
Avoid using this evil attribute, unless if it is justified (rel="noopener" is required for non modern browsers).
Users can open links to a new tab without even a need for right clicking and going to the menu (middle clicking or Ctrl/Cmd + click), and so webmasters should not control how the user wants to navigate the net, but I've seen many others that still do this without any reason, like if they're so scared that users would leave their webpages. Don't be like that.
I lost the article that changed my mind about this anchor attribute that I read years ago but this one does the same job. This article is also helpful.
Websites used to be good in the old days? Eh, that's debatable. This article from 1996 enlists the top 10 mistakes that were and still common in current days in any website.
There are even more editions from 1999, 2003, 2005 and up to 2011 and 2016. Check them out.

In my opinion, the best GIF/image editor on the Internet, and it's free!
Check if your webpages are eco-friendly. Very important.
Create your own cool text or logo for you website for free.
Very useful generator that creates color palettes based on any image. Great for artists and web builders.

Compare heights with this powerful chart, and it is customizable. Perfect for artists.

Graphics
Websites that offers graphics (images, GIFs, accessories) for you.
There are many of these webpages but this one not only categorizes 88x31 buttons but also credits to their original authors. I'm giving another positive because it doesn't enlist any buttons that are personal websites as many others, that's just padding.
Search for tiny pixelated graphics (or icons) with a single click download!
One of the best icon archives in my opinion. Also does have more of the best free web graphics for anything.
This website does still exist on www.iconarchive.com but it's not the same thing.
Another one of the best icon/graphics archives because, it's just like the one mentioned above but here's the difference: this is still a thing today, and you can visit it and download those gorgeous, pixelated graphics.
This one I find it very interesting. It happens to be one of the oldest icon and web graphics archives on the internet that I know of.
Sadly since 2005 it went out of existence, and all of the GeoCities archives does not have this website archived. You can still visit the old captures of it on Wayback Machine.
However, there's a replica of this website called The Icon Depot.
Incredible selection of GIFs.
Offers free backgrounds for your website and even many more free stuff.
A gallery that shows all Windows 98 system icons.
The origins of those funny dancing red letters. Also this website does offer more than 1.000 free animated gifs!
A good resource on background images, icons, gifs, and more.
Don't want to search GIFs through GifCities? then this is for you. Many of those spinning 3D models were made by the author of that website.
Want more funny GIFs??? This one has even funnier 3D ones that have been used for many memes over a decade.
Many free clip art at your disposal. Some links are dead so be aware, the whole website is outdated.

Fun
For entertainment purposes.
The best error message generator that isn't mine, made by shikoshib.
It offers way more different icons, more options like "recommended" buttons, more operating systems like Windows 1.x, 3.x, 8, and even Whistler and Longhorn.
Want to break your own news? This breaking news generator will do for you.
Generate not only fake death screen of old videogames but also text dialogs.
Funny enough, there's also a Windows 95 Tip generator in it, and that was an idea that I had years ago when I was creating my Error Message Generator if it became popular.
Make your photos or any image to look like if it was captured by a Game Boy Camera.
Another tool that makes an image to look like from an old console but in this one includes NES, Virtual Boy and even Apple II.
From the same dev that also made the "Image to Color Palette Generator" which I listed here, includes many more great things such like Text to ASCII Art Generator, Gradient Image Generator, Text Color Fade and many more interesting stuff.
Make your incredible looking text like when you were using MS Office in the 90's.
Want to make a tombstone? This one is also for you.
Want to make a political sign??? This one is also also for you.
Ezgif if it was epic. Blingee discontinued in favor of their gen AI app, but PicMix is already here to stay.
Funny generator of a realistic hand petting a thing you like.
The legendary smallest website in existence.
A very weird and funny website which it was from a band of the same name that I found a while ago. Very interesting design choices altogether and great GIFs.
I would like to know how some of these GIFs were made.
Polish demotivator generator... Don't ask.

Resources
Documentations, guides, tutorials, downloadables, etc. for devs and artists alike.
The best documentation for web developers and there is no doubt about that.
Greatest resource for beginners to the world of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
A big resource of all related to the Internet like web development, its history, in-depth articles and more.
Very useful for me when I code in C++. It has more tutorials on Visual Studio mostly (C, C++, ASP.NET, C#, etc.).
When the country is free. Freebies for any kind!
Many free fonts at your disposal.
Javascript, DHTML and CSS tools and free code.
This website from the 90's went down in 2024, pretty sad.
Javascript, DHTML and CSS tools and free code. Pretty much like the other one.
Another website from the 90's that went down in 2024. Probably both are from the same person, I'm not sure. Still sad to know nonetheless.
Resources on the Lingo programming language (the one that Adobe Director uses).

Software
Downloadable or web applications or plugins, or websites related to them so I could have a reason to leave some of these here instead of the Freebies subpage.
The best browser extension in my opinion, not only skips ads but also skips tangents, credits, sponsors, and so much more. It adds a lot of functionality to the YouTube player it's incredible. You can submit yours too!
There's another excelent extension by the same dev called DeArrow, which changes the thumbnail and titles of many videos, making them alot better.
I recommend both, specially the first one.
An interesting look into some of the very questionable user interfaces.
This website enlists many pieces of software, from mainstream to lesser known software, with detailed information about them being spyware or not.
It became inactive and some of the stuff detailed on each article might be outdated but it still applies today.
Online emulation of various old operating systems.

Games
Software if it isn't taxes. Also websites related to specific games.
Or Geometry Dash Browser, is a custom GD level searcher that tries to mimmick the game interface 1:1 with some unique functionality.
The oldest website about shmup games by a very pasionated gamer and shmup lover with even a lovely web design.
There are reviews and lists of many shmups games and includes a forum that's still active today!
Have you ever wanted to explore 3D levels from videogames of your childhood freely? You can by visiting "noclip.website". No additional software needed! (Old videogames only, you won't find "skibidi among sus warfare reloaded roblox version" there, sorry...)

YT Channels
Or YouTubers, those who make me still use YouTube.
One of the best YT channels out there.
I watched the Sherlock video a long time ago not knowing who this man was and I missed a lot, didn't I? He predates most video essays as we know today.
Not only that but his most recent outputs literally marked history on YouTube. I highly recommend this.
Some of the best videos about The Simpsons, it's one of these people who would talk about how many Milhouse episodes are there.
Must-watch for Simp fans.
Ratatin Gaming.
El futuro del Gaming está aquí.

Directories
Lists to more websites.
A webring of web curators, presented with various categories of links to way more websites to discover and learn.
I'm part of this webring too. Choose left or right to begin!
What happens if a web directory about anything that predates search engines is still a thing today? This is it.
An old looking and very outdated web directory that somehow still exists and never changed its layout and design since the 90's at the time I'm writting this.
Another web directory of freebies that somehow still exists today, and way more inactive. Expect broken links everywhere.

Miscellaneous
I don't how where I should put these.
The oldest webcam since 1994.
The original website of considered one of the first memes of the internet: The Dancing Baby!
